Global well and rig equipment training specialist Well Academy has partnered with MRDS to deliver a specialist surface blow out preventer (BOP) training programme in Aberdeen for a major offshore drilling contractor.
The companies have secured a contract valued up to £175,000 which could see as many as 80 rig-based engineers complete the ModuSpec Hands-On BOP Workshop at the Aberdeen facility of MRDS, a global provider of drilling rig equipment maintenance, inspection, repair, recertification and overhaul services.
Combining classroom-based learning with practical exercises, the programme will utilise a surface BOP stack used within the client’s fleet. The training is designed to strengthen understanding of equipment functionality, maintenance requirements and regulatory compliance, supporting the ongoing competency development of offshore personnel.

Having a surface BOP stack available within our Aberdeen facility allows engineers to move beyond theory and gain practical experience that can be directly applied offshore.”
Delivered by Well Academy, the Hands-On BOP Workshop was developed by sister company ModuSpec and draws on its extensive experience in well control and rig equipment assurance.
